Allen County Community College’s new baseball coach Clint Stoy has been here for a month and has already gotten to work.
“I’ve just been trying to put together a roster, contacting teams on the fall and spring schedule, ordering equipment and trying to get the field ready,” Stoy said.
Before the fall season starts, Stoy wants to get the team on campus to go over the basics of being a player for Allen.
“I want to have an orientation for the players to discuss expectations of them on and off the field as well as do some fundraising and things of that nature,” he said.
He has already brought seven players to the team, all of which are from out of state. Players come from Arizona, New Mexico, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Missouri and Iowa.
“I’ve seen a couple of them play,” Stoy said. “Then, through a lot of networking with other coaches that I know, for one reason or another, have said, ‘Hey, this kid’s looking to transfer.’
Each of the late additions is a transfer from another college, Stoy said.
Stoy’s top priority for his first season with the Red Devils is to develop better players and men.
“Wins and losses are wins and losses. At the end of the day, you can’t define a program by wins and losses,” Stoy said. “You’ve got to  define it by kids coming into your system, growing up, and learning the right way to do things and focus on the things that get that accomplished. Wins and losses will take care of themselves at the end of the year.”
Stoy said his biggest challenge will be changing the team’s mindset, “to get the culture to where I think it needs to be. I want to change some attitudes and change the culture, and really try to get people rejuvenated, excited and have a continued interest in the program.”
Stoy comes from NJCAA national champion Western Iowa Community College, where he was the pitching coach. Jake Kraft will remain as ACC’s assistant.
